WP Betty Lorraine Krieger MUSCATINE, Iowa - Betty Lorraine Krieger, 82, Muscatine, passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Trinity Hospital, Muscatine. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at the Grace Lutheran Church with no other visitation. The Rev. Gary MacManus of the Grace Lutheran Church will officiate the services with the Rev. Don Sondrol assisting. Pallbearers will be Robert Harrison, Denny Taylor, Jim Reynolds, Dick O'Brien, Jim Henderson, and Art Hovick. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ronald Sturms, Dr. Glen Barrington, Dr. Lawrence Gatzke, William Schafenacker, James Kent, Jack Garbutt, John Rigler, John Stevens and Marlin Schauland. Ushers will be James Stein and Keith Hultquist. Following the services a time of fellowship will be held at the Grace Lutheran Church. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. The family requests memorials, in lieu of flowers, be directed to the Marvin and Betty Krieger Scholarship Fund of Muscatine High School-Muscatine Community School Foundation, or the Grace Lutheran Church Building Fund. . Betty was born on November 30, 1927, in Casey, the daughter of Aksel and Nina Sorenson Nielsen. She married Marvin J. Krieger on February 5, 1950, at Grace Lutheran Church in Muscatine. She was a graduate of Casey High School and Iowa State University with a bachelor's of science in foods and nutrition. She was a staff dietician at Ingleside Nebraska State Hospital in Hastings, Neb., a dietician at Park Hospital in Mason City. She was the first dietician at Muscatine County Hospital which is now Trinity Hospital of Muscatine, and served as a dietary consultant to Valley View Manor and the former Hershey Convalescent Home. She was a past secretary to the Muscatine Public Health Nursing Association which is now Community Nursing, past president, Charter and was a 50 year Member of Chapter M.N. of P.E.O., past president of Grant School P.T.O., past board member of Y.W.C.A., life member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, life member of Muscatine Hospital Auxiliary, member of Grace Lutheran Church, past president of Chapter A of Grace Lutheran Church, and a member of Geneva Golf and Country Club. During her lifetime she enjoyed her family and grandchildren, playing bridge, cooking, reading, gardening and traveling. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Marvin Krieger of Muscatine; two sons, Mark Krieger and friend, Laura, of Muscatine, and Douglas Krieger and wife, Susan, of Muscatine; five grandchildren John, Joseph, Benjamin, Courtney and Alison; a sister Sally Allen and husband, Raymond of Oak Brook, Illinois; and two nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
