MELVIN F. WYKERT MUSCATINE, Iowa #45;- Melvin F. Wykert, 71, of Muscatine, died Thursday, March 25, 2010, at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport, Iowa. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. on Monday, March 29, 2010, at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Rev. Don Sondrol will officiate. Casket bearers will be Mike McLaughlin, Chad Grimm, Manfred Leidel, Josh Wykert, Chris Adcock, Jake McLaughlin and Alex Leidel. Honorary bearers will be Amanda Grimm, Sam McLaughlin, Kayla McLaughlin, Rachel Leidel, Caleb Adcock, Cassie Adcock and Bryce Grimm. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the services at his son's home. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 28, 2010, at the funeral home. A memorial fund for Melvin has been established at the funeral home. Melvin S. Wykert was born on Aug. 26, 1938, the son of Howard and Lucille Murray Wykert. On February 2, 1957, Melvin was united in marriage to Ruth E. Phillips at the Grandview Community Church, in Grandview. He worked at Grain Processing Corporation for 44 years, first as a supervisor in the distillery before later becoming a grain analyst....[more]

Melvin enjoyed commercial fishing, gardening and was an avid NASCAR fan. Melvin will be deeply missed by his son, Melvin S. Wykert Jr. and his wife, Debra, of Muscatine; three daughters; Tammy McLaughlin and her husband, Mike, of Muscatine, Peggy Leidel and her husband, Manfred, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Sally Adcock and her husband, Chris, of Rome, Illinois; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two sisters, Linda Perry and her husband, Jim, of Port Byron, Illinois, and Patsy Shoppa and her husband, Wayne Shoppa Jr., of Fruitland. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 50 years, Ruth, on September 2, 2007.
