DANIEL KNOX MUSCATINE, Iowa - Daniel R. Knox, 77, of Muscatine, died Saturday, June 5, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Memorial Gathering will be 4 - 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 27. Daniel was born on May 30, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Walter and Rosemary Roehl Knox. He was raised by his grandmother, Ida Riedel, and his step-mother, Frances Knox. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth McCormick on February 14, 1955, in Muscatine. He served 22 years in the military; US Air Force from 1950 - 1954, US Army from 1960 - 1962, and the National Guard from 1974 - 1988, retiring as a recruiter. He worked at the US Post Office in between his military duties. He also managed the Muscatine Mall when it opened and he managed the theaters at the mall. He was also a scout leader and caretaker at Camp Sacajawea. He was a member of the American Legion Post 27, and along with his wife, attended Trinity Episcopal Church. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Knox of Muscatine; four daughters, Ruth Brown and husband, John, of Morning Sun, Gabriela Gabby Fletcher and husband, Brian, of Wapello, Katherine Smith of Muscatine, and Jauneta Neta Johnson and husband, Tim, of Muscatine; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a close family friend, Robert Peterson and wife, Mary, of Muscatine; a step-sister, Shirley June McArthur of Ohio; two half-brothers, John Kemp of Florida, and Rob Kemp of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandmother, Ida Riedel; his step-mother; and one son-in-law.
