Arnold T. Atkins

Arnold T. Atkins ASHFORD, Alabama - Arnold T. Atkins, 86, Ashford, died Friday, June 11, 2010, at his home following an extended illness. A memorial service was held June 14, at Byrd Funeral Home. The Rev. Kyle Gatlin officiated. Arnold was born on November 21, 1923, in Muscatine, the son of Roy C. and Edna Guilland Atkins. He lived the early years of his life in Muscatine. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Marines. He then began his professional baseball career which spanned for 18 years. He will be missed by his family, friends and the many fans that followed his baseball career. Survivors include his wife, Carol Atkins of Ashford; a son, Tom Atkins of Lancaster, California; a sister, Betty Walters of Davenport; a step-daughter, Laura of Headland, Alabama; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a niece, Anita Weikers; and a nephew, Leroy Atkins, both of Muscatine.
