Theodore 'Ted' J. Heidgerken DAVENPORT, Iowa - Theodore ''Ted'' John Heidgerken, 85, Davenport, formerly of Blue Grass, died Friday, September 17, 2010, at his son's home. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 20, 2010, at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will take place in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 19, 2010, at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, where a prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans. TedĀ was born on October 25, 1924, in Davenport, the son of Claude B. and Marguerite Schebler Heidgerken. He married Olive L. Reck on August 21, 1948, in Davenport. She preceded him in death on May 31, 2007. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the 11th Armored Division during the Battle of the Bulge. He had worked as an auto mechanic with Strieter Motor Co. for more than 26 years. He was also co-owner, with his wife Olive, of Ollie's Ceramics in Blue Grass, Iowa for more than 27 years. He loved the outdoors, especially canoeing and camping...[more]

Survivors include his children, Tedi Heidgerken of Australia, Kitty Stender and husband, Loren, of Eldridge, Christopher Heidgerken and wife, Bev, of Davenport, Michael Heidgerken and wife, Suzanne, of North Liberty, Bernie Heidgerken and wife, Deb, of Long Grove and Albert Heidgerken of Davenport; 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; a sister-in-law, Mardelle Kitzman and husband, Cal, of Davenport; brothers-in-law, Bill Reck, and wife, Mary Lou, of Prescott, Arizona and Jerry Reck and wife, Sarah, of San Diego, California; a sister, Mary Rose Smith of Eldridge; a stepsister, Shirley Fanning of Davenport; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters, Claudine Belk and Marguerite Cambell; a brother, Gerard Heidgerken; stepmother, Helen Niemeyer, and two stepbrothers, Charles and Jerry Fanning.
