Dr. Lee John Betts

Dr. Lee John Betts QUARYVILLE, Pennsylvania - Dr. Lee John Betts, 76, died at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community on November 23, 2010. Dr. Betts was born in 1934 in Union County, New Jersey, the son of Leaman and Kathryn Betts. He was the loving husband of Marjorie Groh Betts for 33 years. They had lived in Strasburg, Pennsylvania, for 10 years. Dr. Betts served as president of Muscatine Community College and vice chancellor of Student Development of Eastern Iowa Community College District from 1980-86. From 1986 until he retired in 1998, he served as president of Frederick Community College, Maryland. He is an honorary retired minister in the Presbyterian Church and President Emeritus, Frederick Community College. He served as a volunteer program associate with Little Children of the World and its affiliate, Little Children of the Philippines, interdenominational Christian service ministries that serve more than 5,000 impoverished children and their families. He and his wife both served on LCW boards and have served on several occasions as volunteers on mission trips to LCP.
