Bruce G. Kirchner LONE TREE, Iowa - Bruce Gaile Kirchner 79, Lone Tree, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at his home. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. on Monday, December 6, 2010, at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Lone Tree. Carol Kaalberg, Parish Life Administrator, will officiate the services. Casket bearers will be John Loughran, Richard Loughran, Jim Smith, David Kirchner, Keith Mills and Nick Miller. Burial will take place in Lone Tree Cemetery with military rites by the Lone Tree American Legion Post 457. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 5, 2010, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Lone Tree First Responders in his memory. Bruce was born on January 9, 1931, in Muscatine, the son of Ernest Arnold and Virginia Lorraine Smith Kirchner. He was a 1950 graduate of Nichols High School. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1952-54 with the rank of 3rd Class Boiler Tender. In addition to this service, he served four years in the Navy Reserves. Services in Iowa City for 30 years. He served as a member of the executive board for the Methodist Church in Lone Tree, was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge starting in Nichols and then the Lone Tree Abner Lodge 535, a 50-year member of the American Legion, serving between West Liberty and the Lone Tree American Legion Post 457 and a 50-year member of the Eastern Star in Nichols, Lone Tree and the Columbus Junction Emma Bechman Chapter 445. He had his own workshop in his basement and loved making oak Christmas ornaments, furniture, such as deacon benches and gazebo style birdfeeders. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Mary Jean Kirchner of Lone Tree; his daughter, Kathy Kay Miller and husband, Nick, of Hills; a grandson, Marshall Miller; a great-grandson, Marcus Miller; and a sister, Lucille Green. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Jayne Burke; a brother, Virgil Kirchner; and two brothers-in-law, Ferd Green and Frank Burke.
