Rodney Smith
With heartfelt sadness, we announce the passing of Rodney W. Smith, age 87, of Quincy has gone to be with his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 17, 2021, in Blessing Hospital Rodney was born August 24, 1934 in Pittsfield, Illinois, the son of Wilford and Relna Klineschmidt Smith. He married Rose M. DeSpain on June 2, 1956 in Pittsfield, Illinois. He graduated from Barry High School. Rodney worked for his uncle on the farm when he was younger. Then he started to work at Gardner Denver for his 40 year career. He started working in the Mail room and worked his way in to Data Processing where he was a manager. Rodney was quite the athlete in his day. He loved playing all kinds of sports. He also enjoyed playing Chinese checkers, cards, and board games. After his retirement, Rodney became Rose's helper at the daycare. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon, a Sunday School Teacher, and also assisted with the AWANA program.
