Lucille L. Beatty WEST LIBERTY, Iowa - Lucille Lydia Beatty, 96, of West Liberty, and formerly of rural Muscatine, died on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at the Simpson Memorial Home. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 24, 2011, at Spangler Chapel Church, rural Muscatine. Burial will take place at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Muscatine. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at the New Hope United Methodist Church, Muscatine. Memorials may be directed to Spangler Chapel Church. The Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton is in charge of the arrangements. Lucille was born in Muscatine on December 30, 1914, to Frederick William and Catherine Marolf Schuessler. She grew up in Bloomington Township in Muscatine County and attended Kalarama Country School. While there, she met her future husband, Carl Edmund Beatty. Lucille and Carl were married on April 3, 1938, at her parent's home. He preceded her in death on July 5, 2001. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother who dedicated her time to keeping an orderly home and spent countless hours canning, doing laundry, dressing chickens and selling eggs. an excellent cook and always made sure a hot meal was prepared for her family at breakfast, dinner and supper. She was also an excellent baker who made delicious pies with perfect crusts and amazing cinnamon rolls. Family members will never forget her homemade chocolate cake. Lucille was a member of Spangler Chapel Church where she was active in the UMW and the Church Ladies Bible Study. She was also a longtime member of the Bloomington Grange. Lucille is survived by her children, Carol (and Royce) Lane of Laramie, Wyoming; Janet (and Jack) Wilson of Muscatine; Marvin (and Karol) Beatty of Muscatine; Lois (and Leo) Ochiltree of Wilton; Edie (and Steve) Burnett of Atalissa; Robert Beatty of Muscatine; and Paul (and Karen) Beatty of Muscatine. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, LaVerne Beatty of Muscatine; Esther Hoag of Austin, Minnesota, and Gertrude Schuessler of Muscatine; and several nieces and nephews. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter-in-law, Deb Beatty; her two brothers, Clarence and Raymond Schuessler; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Schuessler; and brothers-in-law, Ernest Beatty and John Hoag.
