Robert C. Walsh WEST BRANCH, Iowa - Robert Charles Walsh, 73, West Branch, formerly of Riverside, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011, at his home in West Branch following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Riverside. The Rev. Rich Adam will officiate the service. Burial will take place in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military rites by Riverside V.F.W. Post 6414. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at St. Mary's Parish Center. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, with 7 p.m. Prayer Service at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Riverside. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Bob. Robert was born on February 4, 1938, in Riverside, the son of Bernard and Velma Thomann Walsh. He was a 1956 graduate of St. Mary's High School. He served with the United States Army from 1956-58, during the Korean era. He enjoyed gardening, farming, yard work, being in the outdoors and socializing with his VFW buddies, but most of all, he dearly loved to spend time with his family, especially the grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Joan Walsh of West Branch; his children, Kelly Walsh and husband, Jim Saylor, of Tipton, Lori Walsh-Myers and husband, Mike, of West Branch, and Marvin Walsh and wife, Lisa; seven grandchildren, Joshua Walsh, Jake Myers, Sydney Myers, Jessica Myers, Max Myers, Robby Saylor and Summer Saylor; two brothers, Loren Walsh and wife, Willadean, of Bartow, Florida, and Gary Walsh and wife, LeAnn, of Riverside; a sister-in-law, Ann Walsh of Davenport; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leonard Walsh; and a sister, Marilyn Muller and her husband, Jack.
