MARIA ORTIZ MUSCATINE, Iowa - Maria C. Ortiz, 83, of Muscatine, died on Friday, April 29, 2011, at All American Care Center. Private Graveside Service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Maria was born on April 26, 1928, in Corpus Christy, Texas, the daughter of Hipolito Castañon and Petra Sanchez. She married Julian A. Ortiz on October 14, 1945 in Del Rio, Texas. She enjoyed gardening, music, dancing, and spending time with family. Those left to honor her memory include three sons, Raul 'Randy' Ortiz of Muscatine, Julian Ortiz and wife, Dee, of Conesville, and Juan Ortiz of Del Rio, Texas; three daughters, Dora Raushenberger and husband, Joel, of Muscatine, Belinda Ortiz of Muscatine, and Mary Olivarez and husband, Raymond, of Muscatine; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Pedro Castañon , Roberto Castañon, and Vicente Castañon; and four sisters, Carmen Moncivais, Ramona Pesina, Gloria Castañon, and Aurelia Bratcher.
