GEORGE BROWER MUSCATINE, Iowa - George B. Brower, 84, of Muscatine, died on Monday, May 2, 2011, at his home. Celebration of Life Gathering for both George and Peggy Brower will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2011, at the Muscatine American Legion. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Muscatine Humane Society. George was born on October 30, 1926, in Muscatine, the son of Myron B. and Dona L. Warman Brower. He married Peggy J. Watters on October 30, 1947, in Muscatine. She preceded him in death on November 23, 2010. He was a graduate of Muscatine High School, and started working as a caddy at Geneva when he was 14 years old. He was US Army veteran and served from 1944 to1946, as a Sergeant First Class during World War II. He re-enlisted during the Korean War from 1950 to 1951. He operated Brower Service Station and was affiliated with Texaco Oil. He drove truck for Poole Transfer and Roadway, retiring after 20 years. rican Legion Post 27. He built their home on Magnolia in 1956, and lived there until his death and with his wife of 63 years. He enjoyed hunting, and piloting small aircraft. He also enjoyed golfing with friends both at Geneva and Muscatine Municipal Golf Course. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his kindness and wonderful sense of humor. Those left to honor his memory include one son, Kenneth Brower of Muscatine; one daughter, Beth Norton and husband, Brock, of Clive; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Lessenger, Angela Pestle, Chase Brower, Leah Brower, Jennifer Medina, Alexa Norton, and Landry Norton; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Myron O. Brower of Scottsdale, Arizona. The family would like to give a special thanks to Ron and Deb Streger, Mick and Shirley Hagermann, Sandy Nietzel, Val Congdon, and the Trinity Home Care and Hospice Staff. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, one son, George M. Brower; and one sister, Dona Minton.
