Forrest V. "Woody" Miller, died peacefully on Friday morning at his home in Plymouth Meeting. Born in Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania on January 7, 1924, he was the beloved husband of Helen (Simko) Miller. A member of Epiphany of Our Lord Church, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. He served in the Navy for 24 years and was a veteran of both WW II and Korea seeing active duty aboard the USS Bennington in the European Theater and the USS Bonhomme Richard in the Korean Conflict. While stationed at Philadelphia Naval Base he participated as the leading Chief Petty Officer in the first simulated flight in space for NASA and in the training of the first original astronauts such as Schiarra, Shepard, and Grissom in preparation for their NASA manned flights. He retired in 1967 as a Master Chief Petty Officer Parachute Rigger from the Navy and worked for Sanders & Thomas and the Federal government. For more than 50 years he was an active member of the Ambler counsel of the Knights of Columbus serving as Grand Knight. Family and friends are invited Tuesday, October 21st 6:00-8:00 PM at the Urban Funeral Home, 1111 S. Bethlehem Pike, Ambler. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Epiphany of Our Lord Church, Walton Rd and Township Line, Plymouth Meeting. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken.
