Dr. Anthony Alfred Vito D.D.S., professor emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania School Of Dental Medicine, died peacefully surrounded by his family on November 10, 2008. He was 83. Dr. Vito retired from the U. of Penn School of Dental Medicine where he proudly gave 45 years of service. He was professor of Oral Diagnosis and Treatment Planning and Periodontics. He was Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs from 1970 to 1980. He is survived by his wife, Alexandra MacDonald, of 53 years; 6 children: Cynthia Manning (Jack), James Vito DMD (Barbara), Mary Hicks (Billy), Linda Reilly (Phil), Robert Vito (Lisa) and Kenneth Vito MD (Liese), and 12 grandchildren: Jackie and Tommie Manning; Jonathan, Christopher and Alex Hicks; Philip, Stephanie, Kayla, and Colleen Reilly; Julia Vito; Allee and Matthew Vito; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Theresa (Michael) Filips. He was preceded in death by his sister Marie (Gerard) Margiotti and parents, James and Matilda Vito. nd a Combat Infantry Badge. He attended St. Joseph's College, and then graduated from the U of Penn School of Dental Medicine. He completed a residency in Oral Surgery at Kings County Hospital before returning to Penn for his postgraduate degree in Periodontology. He joined the staff at Penn Dental School in 1957 where he proudly taught thousands of dentists before retiring in 2002. He was a researcher, administrator and teacher who soundly contributed to the betterment of his specialty. He was a moral compass for the family and lived a life that was simple and honorable. God, family and education were of paramount importance. He was an accomplished pianist even though he never learned to read music. He enjoyed his summers in Avalon and dinners with family. Relatives and friends are invited to call 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at the Anton B. Urban Funeral Home 1111 S. Bethlehem pike Ambler, PA and 10:00 to 11:00 AM Friday at St. Alphonsus Church Conwell Dr. Maple Glen Funeral Mass 11:00 AM Entombment Sunset Memorial Park.
