Millie Steele

Millie Steele was born on November 30, 1932, in St. Peter, Minnesota to the late Arthur and Gertrude (Engesser) Glass. She was baptized as a young child and later confirmed. She lived her life in St. Peter, Minnesota where she graduated from St. Peter High School in 1950. She then attended and graduated from Mankato State College. Millie's first teaching job was in the Winthrop Elementary School in Winthrop, Minnesota for three years. On July 3, 1955, Millie was united in marriage to LeMoyne "Lem" W. Steele at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Peter. This union was blessed with four children. After marriage, Millie and Lem lived in various places before finally settling in Windom. Millie was a homemaker and a very supportive and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Lem passed away on October 31, 2002. After his death, Millie remained in Windom. Recently, Millie moved to Rosemount to live with her son, David, after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. She was placed in hospice under the care of David and passed away peacefully at his home in Rosemount on Wednesday afternoon, November 24, 2010, at the age of 77. Windom where she was a member of the LWML and the Joanna Circle. Her hobbies included painting, making greeting cards and woodcarving. Millie is survived by her four children, Brian (Susan) Steele of Shoreview; Genni Steele of St. Paul; David Steele of Rosemount; Lane (Deann) Steele of Windom; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Michael, Hannah, Sarah and Isaac; one sister, Fran (Wendell) Knight of Hico, TX; one brother, Art (Gladys) Glass of St. Peter; and nieces and nephews. Millie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, LeMoyne "Lem" Steele; and one sister, Shirley Rollings. Blessed be the memory of Millie Steele.
