Ruth Schalk

Ruth Schalk, of Antigo, died Sunday, June 26, 2011 at Pine Meadow under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. She was 93 years old. She was born on April 16, 1918 in Ironwood, Michigan, daughter of Carl and Olga (Rhenlund) Lundin. She married Donald Schalk on February 22, 1941 in Neenah. He preceded her in death on March 28, 2002. She was a graduate of Ironwood High School class of 1936, and Lawrence University in Appleton in 1940. While at Lawrence Ruth was President of Alpha Delta Pi, and was chosen a "Best Loved" an honorary position in her graduating class. Her husbands career took the family to Neenah-Menasha, North Carolina, and Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She was active in each of the communities she lived. Ruth was a girl scout leader, President of the Parent Teachers Association at her children's grade school and served in other leadership roles. She was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational in Elcho, Antigo Bass Lake Country Club and the Antigo Woman's Club where she was active in their fine arts department. ake and Naples Florida, a daughter Marilyn Schalk and her husband Dr. Ade Dillon of Marshfield; four Grandchildren Melanie Dillon, Ade Dillon Jr., Jennifer Schalk, and Joanna (Kenneth) Ouellette; two Great-Grandsons Logan and Ryan Ouellette. A Memorial service celebrating Ruth's life will be held on Monday August 8, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home in Antigo with Rev. Jack LaMar officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Following cremation Ruth will be interred next to her husband at the Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery in King, Wisconsin.
