Eau Claire/Madison -Alberta Marie Hayes, 83, passed away on Saturday June 25, 2011 at the Syverson Nursing Home in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Alberta was born August 31, 1927 to Albert and Mary (Alderson) Hemiller in Apple River, IL. As a child she moved to Janesville, WI with her family where she lived until she married Alden Hayes in 1952. They moved to Madison when Alden enrolled at UW Madison under the GI Bill. Other than a couple of years spent in St Paul, MN., she lived in Madison until 2005 when she moved to Eau Claire to be near her son Brian and his family. Following the death of her husband in 1979, Alberta became active in various organizations. In 1988 she became certified in Braille Transcription and was an active Member of the Madison Chapter of VBTI serving in various positions on the board as well as transcribing during her many years of membership. She was also an ESL tutor helping many students acquire a better understanding of English. Alberta truly enjoyed this time in her life and all of the wonderful friends she made. y (Frank) Splinter, both of Janesville, WI; grandchildren, Jeremy, Graham, Autumn, Priya and Anjali; great grandchildren, Bradley and Madeline; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Alberta is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Mary Hemiller, her husband, Alden Hayes, and her sister, Ethel Cone. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 12 Noon, with a visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
