Edna Mae McDonald, 84, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Sunday morning, July 3, 2011, at Clover Ridge Place in Maquoketa, Iowa. A celebration of her life will be held at 10 A.M., Thursday, July 7, 2011, at the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Carson & Son Funeral Cremation Services in Maquoketa. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa. Edna Mae Kunde was born on January 8, 1927 in Grand Mound, Iowa to August and Alice (Schrader) Kunde. She spent her early years in Grand Mound and then moved with her family to a farm near Nashville. She married William Dudley McDonald on August 21, 1949 in Bowling Green, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 1, 1968. Edna had first worked on the assembly line at the Savanna Ordinance Depot, and then did housecleaning for area families. Upon her marriage, she became a homemaker and farmed with her husband Dudley. Edna Mae was a member of the Maquoketa Garden Club and the Tuesday Club. She was also a former member of the Elwood United Methodist Church where she had taught Sunday school for many years. gardening, upholstering furniture and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved to cook, baked wedding cakes and had made candy mints for many occasions. Edna Mae is survived by her children, Ron (Mary) McDonald of Maquoketa, IA, and Connie (John) Bellendier of Davenport, IA; a step-daughter, Lovell Caraway of Maquoketa, IA; 5 grandchildren, Carissa, Jamie (Cassie), Ian (Molly), Adam and Aric; 3 great-grandchildren, Seamus, Liam and Elijah; sisters, Lulubell (Merwin) Koch of Maquoketa, IA, and Bonnabell (Lowell) Creger of Baldwin, IA; and a brother, Earl (Dolly) Kunde of Monmouth, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 4 brothers and 4 sisters. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, an Edna Mae McDonald memorial fund has been established.
