Herbert D. "Herb" Kinion, 88, of Monmouth, Iowa, died on Friday morning, July 15, 2011, at his home in rural Monmouth, Iowa. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 P.M. on Monday, July 18, 2011, at Carson & Son Funeral Cremation Services in Maquoketa. Burial will be in the Wyoming, Iowa Cemetery, with a military flag presentation. Herbert Dale Kinion was born on April 10, 1923 in Bloomfield, Iowa, to Carl and Nellie (Turner) Kinion. He graduated from Downing High School in Missouri and honorably served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Prior to his military service, Herb worked for area farmers and then Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids. After receiving his honorable discharge, he married Naydeen Frazee on January 23, 1946 in Ironton, Ohio. They lived in Columbus, Ohio and then moved to the Maquoketa area, settling on the now Kinion farm in 1953. Herb had farmed and worked as a mail carrier. in Monmouth, Wyoming American Legion Post #259, and was a lifetime member of the Maquoketa VFW Post #3633 O'Connor-Regenwether. Herb loved to hunt, fish, camp, golf, and had a zest for life. He was known for his compassion and kindness to all, both humans and animals. Herb is survived by his wife, Naydeen Kinion of Monmouth, IA; sons, Dale (Judy) Kinion of Monmouth, IA, and Lynn Kinion of Monmouth, IA; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank (Bonnie) Kinion of TN; and a sister, Edith (Frank) Boggs of CO.
