Betty Ann (Hoffmann) Bright formerly from Muscatine but recently from Aventura, Florida, passed away December 18, 2021 at the age of 100. Betty was born in Wanatah, Indiana on December 1, 1921 to Leroy and Mary Black. She was the middle of 9 children. She graduated from Indiana State University with a degree in home economics and taught school in Indiana. She married Kenneth Hoffmann on November 10, 1946. They moved to Muscatine in 1957 and ran the S.J. Hoffmann Silo Company. Betty continued working with the company after Kenneth Hoffmann passed away in September 1970. She served in the Iowa Legislature from 1977 to 1984, representing Muscatine and the surrounding area. For her work she was named a Pioneer Lawmaker in 1997. During this period she married Kenneth Bright in 1981. Betty was very active in the community as a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, PEO, Unity Hospital Auxilary, Muscatine Community College Board, Community Nursing Board, Iowa State Committee on Aging and Muscatine Planning and Zoning. At age 91 she was selected for 'Every Senior has a Story' by the Iowa Health Care Association and Iowa Center for Assisted Living Public Relations Committee. ...[more]

e was preceded in death by her parents and 7 of her siblings, her husbands Kenneth Hoffmann and Kenneth Bright and her son James Hoffmann. She is survived by her sister, Phyllis Marks, of LaPorte, Indiana; her children, Peggy (Buddy) White of Northlake, Texas and Sam (Jill) Hoffmann of Sheffield, Illinois. She is also survived by her step-children, Sally Bunn and Jeff Bright of Muscatine, Dave Bright of Tallahassee, Florida, Robin(Steve) Heitman of Marengo, Iowa and Paul (Suzanne) Bright of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 11 at 11:00 am at Wesley United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church.
