Richard Paul Knigge

Richard "Rick" Paul Knigge was born on September 23, 1948, to the late Gilbert and Margaret (Schmieding) Knigge in Windom, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom. He attended school in Windom and graduated from high school in 1967. At age 16, Rick received the Eagle Scout Award. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged four years later. After his service to his country, Rick worked for Hussong Construction and then for Waldo Wiens at Windom Millwork. In 1990, Rick opened his own business, Knigge Custom Cabinets until retiring in 2007. On August 30, 1975, Rick was united in marriage to Barbara Lund at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. This marriage was blessed with two children, Angela and Daniel. In 1995, this marriage was dissolved. In 1997, he met Gini Sorbo, a dear companion for the last 14 years of his life. Rick passed away on Monday, August 1, 2011, with his family at his bedside in Windom at the age of 62. Rick is survived by two children, Angela (David) Manke of Brandon, SD and Daniel Knigge of Windom; two grandsons, Easton and Dawson Manke of Brandon, SD; eight siblings, Jane (Sheldon) Larson of Fallbrook, CA; Steve (Jamie) Knigge of Excelsior; Ken Knigge of Windom; Rollin (Sandy) Knigge of Windom; Jim (Karen) Knigge of Windom; Diane (Tom) Low of Bingham Lake; David Knigge of Windom; and Donald (Paula Enderson) Knigge of Windom; many nieces and nephews; Virginia Sorbo of Windom; and other relatives.
