Daniel C. Roan

Daniel C. Roan Jr., 84, of Keokuk died at 8:00 pm on August 19, 2011 at Lexington Square in Keokuk. He was born on August 19, 1927 in Keokuk, IA the son of Daniel B. Sr. and Joy Califf Roan. Dan married Agnes E. Driscoll on April 25, 1952 in Keokuk. She preceded him in death in 1985. He then married Joann Arneson on December 23, 1986 and she preceded him in death also. Dan was a lifelong resident of Keokuk. He graduated in 1945 from St. Peter's High School in Keokuk. He attended Carthage College and later served in the Navy on the USS Appalachian. After the military he worked at Union Electric for over 38 years retiring in 1989. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, Keokuk Elks Lodge # 106 his entire adult life, the Keokuk Yacht Club and the Keokuk Southside Boat Club. Dan loved life and knew no strangers, he also had a love for animals and enjoyed hunting. He was an avid golfer with 10 hole-in-ones to his credit. Dan is survived by three sons: Daniel F. (Debbie) Roan of Elmhurst, IL, Douglas P. (Patti) Roan of Keokuk, and Joseph B. on Roan all of Chicago, IL; and one sister: Joy Ballard of Naples, FL. Dan and his family truly appreciated his care giver Mary Meinhardt. He was preceded in death by his parents and two wives. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 23 at All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk with Rev. Mark A. Spring officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery in Keokuk with full military honors. Visitation is after 3 pm Monday with family meeting with friends from 6 to 8 at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers located at 917 Blondeau St. in Keokuk. There will be an Elks Memorial Service at 8 pm. Memorials may be made to Keokuk Elks Lodge # 106.
