John M. McAuliffe, 54, of Delmar, Iowa, died on Tuesday evening, August 23, 2011, at his home in Delmar, Iowa, after a 9 year battle with cancer. A celebration of his life will be held at 1:30 P.M., Saturday, August 27, 2011, from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. on Friday, August 26, 2011, from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. Cremation will follow the visitation and burial will be in the Union Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa. John Morris McAuliffe was born on January 8, 1957 in Clinton, Iowa, to Morris John and Wynona Lorraine (Gray) McAuliffe. He grew up in Lost Nation and graduated from Lost Nation High School in 1975. He married Mary Lena Price on June 7, 1992 in Maquoketa, Iowa. John had worked for 18 years for Lawrence Riley at "Bill's Tap" in Maquoketa as a bartender. He then worked for Campbell Clean-Up in Maquoketa for a short time and lastly for BFI Waste Management for 12 years. John was a member of the Abate of Iowa District #21, HOG - Heartland Chapter of Clinton, First Lutheran Church and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Club in Maquoket...[more]

John loved to ride his Harley Davison motorcycle, camping with his wife, children and grandchildren, and fishing, mainly for catfish. He also was a NASCAR fan with Jimmy Johnson as his favorite driver and he loved his dogs, especially Oscar. John is survived by his wife, Mary McAuliffe of Delmar, IA; his children, Melissa (Wade) Wilson of Maquoketa, IA, Loretta (Randy) Hoogerhyde of Maquoketa, IA, Chalette (Radd) Gerischer of Maquoketa, IA, Tim (Faith) Blozvich of Cedar Rapids, IA, Annette (Charlie) Burton of Sireson, MO, Robert Blozvich, Jr. of Trenton, MO, and Scott Blozvich of Trenton, MO; 18 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter; a brother, Gene (Rachael) McAuliffe of Ruskin, FL; sisters, Maureen Rasmussen of Independence, IA, Joan (Richard) Osborne of Dubuque, IA, and Diane (Keith) Bruns of Dubuque, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a granddaughter, Brittany Ann Marie Greene on April 2, 2011. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a John M. McAuliffe memorial fund has been established. The family wishes to give special thanks to Hospice of Jackson County, his 3rd floor girls at Genesis West in Davenport, and all of his friends and family for the loving care given to John.
