SHAWN JOSEPH GERMAIN

Shawn Joseph Germain, 72, of Gwinn, died Saturday, January 29, 2022, at his home, with his family by his side and under the care of UP Home Health and Hospice. He was born February 1, 1949, in Escanaba, a son of the late Hector and Viola (Young) Germain. He was a 1968 graduate of Gwinn High School and a lifelong area resident. Shawn served in the US Navy as a See Bee during the Vietnam War. On June 14, 1969 he married Darlene Jo Hocking at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn. Shawn was employed as a welder at the Empire Mine for CCI for 31 years retiring in 2003. He was a longtime member of the Forsyth Township Fire Department and EMS, Vietnam Veterans of America-Negaunee Chapter 380, the Knights of Columbus and a member of the KI Sawyer Air Museum. He also taught CPR classes at the Gwinn Schools for 16 years. Shawn's family would like to thank the staff of UP Home Health & Hospice for the excellent care they provided him in his final days. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022 from 11 am to 1 pm at Canale-Gwinn Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm in the funeral home with Rev.
