R. GEORGE SHIELD MUSCATINE, Iowa - R. George Shield, 88, of Muscatine, died on Friday, September 9, 2011, at Lutheran Homes. Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Michael S. Shield Jr. will officiate. Casket bearers will be Ben Shield, Sam Shield, Brittni Shield, Julie Hansen, Tori Shield, Russell W. Shield, Stacy Olson, and Russell G. Shield. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to ARC of Southeast Iowa. George was born on April 11, 1923, in Muscatine, the son of Lloyd C. and Eunice Bowser Shield. He married Thera Mae Patterson on July 10, 1943, in Texas. She preceded him in death on November 29, 2010. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Corp, serving during World War II. He was a farmer for his entire life. He was a member of the Lions Club of Eliza, Illinois. Those left to honor his memory include two sons, Michael S. Shield Sr. and wife, Linda, of Muscatine, and Russell W.
