Deanna Dee Swanson
Deanna Dee (Betels) Swanson, age 75, of Pine Island, Minnesota passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at DHR Health Hospital in Edinburg, Texas after a short illness. Deanna was born in Buffalo Center, Iowa on February 20, 1946, the second of 4 girls to William and Oudie (Weaver) Betels. Deanna grew up on farm near Buffalo Center, then graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1964. After graduation she attended Hamilton Business School in Mason City, Iowa. She was married to Duane Swanson on November 14, 1964 at the Methodist Church of Buffalo Center. She moved with her husband to Cedar Falls, Iowa who was attending college at the University of Northern Iowa. She worked for a short time for the university. Her careers consisted of several jobs as she moved with her husband. The career she enjoyed the most was being an optician. She liked finding the best-looking glasses as well as making sure they fit the person. She was constantly helping friends and family with their eyewear needs. She worked as an optician in Northfield and Bemidji, Minnesota. Deanna finished her working career as a clinical assistant for Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, retiring in 2015. ade lots of friends wherever she worked. Deanna liked spending winters in Alamo, Texas at Alamo Palms RV Park. It was here she took advantage of the warmer weather to swim in the Park's swimming pool. She especially liked being around family so she could share her love. She loved music and reading her Bible. Deanna was a devout Christian who enjoyed talking with others about how much the Lord meant to her. She was so loving and gracious helping everyone she could. Deanna is survived by her husband, Duane of 57 years and her 4 children, Dan (Margaret) Swanson of Oronoco, MN, Dawn Bonasera of Brooklyn, NY, Dione Swanson of Honolulu, HI, Dave (Chris) Swanson of Burnsville, MN; 2 grandchildren, Stella Bonasera and Jack Swanson; 3 sisters, Kathleen (Don) Gray-Johnson, Linda (Dean) Meier & Ellen (John) Laage. She was proceeded death by her parents William and Oudie Betels. A Celebration of Life service will be held 1:30 PM Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Masks are required to attend.
