A memorial Mass will be held Monday, October 3, at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. Inurnment will take place at Buffalo Township Cemetery, Titonka with military honors conducted. Her family will greet friends on Monday one hour prior to the Mass at the church in Wesley. Alvina Julia Larsen was born on February 18, 1918 in Titonka, daughter of Herman and Matilda Rose (Jacobs) Oppedal. She attended country school, Titonka High School, and graduated from Wesley High School in 1935. She then attended Junior College in Britt for one year. Julia worked in Kleinpeter Department Store until she enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 and was sent to Great Lakes Naval Hospital and was transferred to the Medical Department of the Admiral Staff in the Board of Trade Building in Chicago, IL. She was discharged in November, 1945. Julia then worked for the Chicago Department of Pathology and also for a private physician doing accounting. She was married to John W. Larsen on June 9, 1948 in Chicago. They lived in Northbrook, IL and moved to Diamond City, AR in 1972 where Julia worked for the City Treasurer retiring in 1996. Julia moved to Clear Lake in 1997. she enjoyed volunteering with Hospice. She also enjoyed raising dogs and traveling. Julia became a resident of the Algona Manor Care Center in June, 2008. She died there on September 27, 2011 at the age of 93. She is survived by a sister, Thelma Blain of Wesley; nephews, Jerald Blain of Wesley and his son Jeb; a niece-in-law, Eileen Blain of Canyon City, CO and her daughter Anne. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Eugene Loebig; her husband John on July 10, 1982; a brother Robert Oppedal; and a nephew James Blain.
