Gary E. Hunt

Gary E. Hunt, 73, died Friday, February 18, 2022 at Marion Health. He was born in Marion on January 24, 1949, the son of the late Max and Vera (Miller) Hunt. He graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1967 and served in the United States Army. He married Arlene West on September 19, 1998. He was a First Responder with Grant County EMS for many years and served on the Upland Volunteer Fire Department, Van Buren Fire Department, and most recently Center Township Fire Department. He had been employed with Owens-Illinois for 15 years, GenCorp for 16 years, and Foster Forbes. He was a Corrections Officer for the Grant County Sheriff's Department and the Indiana Department of Corrections. Gary enjoyed working outside, cooking, camping, watching bird houses. He especially enjoyed doing things for others and spending time with his grandchildren. grandchildren: Dean Samuel, and Alba Mae; a sister: Kim (Keven) Pratt, Cromwell; a nephew: Kody (Lindsay) Pratt; three aunts; two brothers-in-law and sister-in-law; mother-in-law, Ruth West; and his beloved dog, Sissie Mae. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dustin; a nephew, Kory Pratt; and father-in-law, Robert West. Arrangements for Gary have been entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 259 N. Main St., Upland, Indiana 46989, where a visitation will be held from 11am to 2pm on Thursday, February 24, 2022. The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Chaplain Darrell Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Jefferson Cemetery, Upland. Memorial contributions may be made to Center Township Fire Department or to Grant County EMS.
