Robert Paul Laing was born March 15, 1925, at Algona, Iowa, to Firman and Irene (Simmons) Laing, Sr. Bob attended Algona schools and served his country in the United States Navy. He received his high school diploma while in the Navy. Following his discharge, Bob returned to the Algona area and worked with his father at Laing and Muckey Plumbing and Heating. He later bought the business and operated it until his retirement in 1993. Bob was united in marriage to Rosemary Leinen on June 30, 1951, in Algona.
Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and woodcarving. He was a member of the V.F. W. Post # 2541 in Algona and the Seely-Walsh Post #425 American Legion in Whittemore and he was a former member of the Isaac Walton League in Algona. Bob was also a volunteer fireman on the Algona Fire Department for 20 years.
Bob died at his home in Algona on Thursday afternoon, October 13, 2011, at the age of 86.
