nd Gravel, Snap-On Tools salesman, became the owner of Sportsman's Corner in 1979, and became a sales representative for Bowman Distribution/MSC in 1986 until he retired in 2019. His work ethic followed his motto of "you don't have to, you get to." The titles he held most dear to his heart were son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. Dennis was a dedicated member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree, and served as Grand Knight, and spent countless hours volunteering. Dennis "D-man" especially enjoyed the time he spent with his family. He loved family meals, Sunday hamburgers at his mom's after mass, daily morning coffee with his Mom to kick off his day, and playing card games with family and friends. Dennis opened his home to large family holiday celebrations, of which special memories were made and cherished. He welcomed Lilia, Carlota, and Erika Alvarado from Ecuador into his home as exchange students who are now lifelong family. Dennis was not one to sit around "burning daylight." From an early age, he was a car enthusiast. He loved cars, buying, restoring, and washing them. He enjoyed a good car show, and taking road trips with his girlfriend along the scenic routes, including the Lincoln Highway, Route 66, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. He always took the opportunity to visit a National Park or the Iowa Freedom Rocks while singing to the 50s and 60s. Dennis's sweet tooth never met a dessert (or 5) that he didn't enjoy, and the ice cream would always fill the cracks. On May 29, 2022, Dennis, a patriotic loving man, left this world quietly after a short stay at an assisted living facility in West Des Moines. The timing was significant as the flags flew for Memorial Day weekend. It was one of his favorite holidays. Left to cherish Dennis's memory are his wife, Kathy of Waukee; children, Jennifer (Joseph) Hoover of Urbandale, Molly (Jeremy) Bolie of Urbandale, Benjamin T.
