here might be an opening at the Scottsdale post office as that was Larrys profession. It turned out that they were hiring and the postmaster told Larry that the job was his if they could be back in two weeks, they never made it to Loveland but went back to Evanston to quickly gather all their their belongings and moved to Scottsdale in 1960 where they called home for 38 more years before Larrys passing on August 14th 1998. Pat was a loving and very supportive Mom to two boys; Dale and Mark. Dale was born in 1962 and Mark was born in 1971, to Larrys delight they both played sports and at each game Pat attended she enthusiastically cheered for both teams on the court or the field, that was Pats way, to cheer for all the kids not necessarily a certain team although she passionately wanted her boys to succeed at whatever they did. She continued this enthusiastic way of cheering for her four grand daughters as they were all fierce competitors and gifted athletes at their sports; basketball, track, softball and volleyball. Those who knew Pat enjoyed her long visits over coffee and always a cookie or a meal, she truly had the gift of hospitality. The food wasn't the highest priority, although she enjoyed good food and hoped you did too but the main point was just that you would come to be with her and enjoy an active and often humorous conversation. She loved a good giggle, told very colorful stories and made it a point to always end on a warm and heartfelt compliment for her guest. Our family is not sure if in her 88 years of life if Pat ever met a stranger, there are many tales of her making friends in the most interesting ways. The Hellestrae family was blessed to be a part of a neighborhood of several families all living in close knit community for over 50 years where so much of life was lived. They shared birthdays, watched out for each others kids who would regularly walk in neighbors back doors to open cabinets looking for cookies, mowed each others lawns and doing home improvements for each other was just a natural way of life. Pat enjoyed going on cruises and traveling with friends, was never able to keep enough mystery novels on hand as she consumed books, she enjoyed water aerobics as long as someone was there to giggle with during class and had the largest collection of water shoes in Scottsdale (we think). She was a long time committed member of the widows group at Scottsdale Bible church, loved to play games, volunteered as an usher for many years at Grady Gammage where she saw thousands of productions (we think). Pat loved her family, loved the Lord and loved life ~ rarely would she turn down and offer to go somewhere and would often secretly cancel plans to be with her kids or grandkids no matter what the occasion. During her final year of life she crafted elaborate stories of an ongoing cruise she was on while in the group home where she lived in Scottsdale. Each day held a new enjoyable angle including how good the food was or how the weather was expected to be and in her final days expressed that this cruise has been a very long one and she was ready to go home which the Lord lovingly provided for her on August 29th. As deeply as we will all miss her, our hearts were always happy for her that this was the outlook she was given before she departed this life. Pat is survived by her brother Fran who lives with his wife Lonnie in Illinois; Pats oldest son Dale Hellestrae ~ his wife Brooke and their two girls Hillary (Hellestrae) Stockwell and her husband Scott with their kids being Pats two great grandchildren Graham and Beckett; Kendyll (Hellestrae) Taylor and her husband Alex; Pats youngest son Mark Hellestrae and his wife Pam who went to be with the Lord August 16th 2021 and their two girls Kiersten and Lauren Hellestrae.
