teacher, high school administrator, adult education teacher, and college instructor. He received the Teacher of the Year award from AEA 13. He was a member of the U.S. Army and Reserve, Phi Delta Kappa, Sigma Tau Gamma, Alpha Phi Omega, Carson United Methodist Church, and other organizations. Rich enjoyed hunting and fishing. He always said that the only "bad day of fishing or hunting" was when he was not doing one or the other. He assisted farmers and did a lot of painting when he was not going back to school. Rich loved being with his grandchildren, Nate, Jack, and Kate. He was an avid reader. His favorite teams were the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals, and Mizzou Tigers. Rich was preceded in death by his parents; nephew Kevin Elliott and his wife, Tasha, and their two children, Wyatt, and Madison; father and mother-in-law Bayard and Ruth Phillips. Rich is survived by his wife, Jennifer; son Bret and Kara and their son, Jack, of Papillion, NE; daughter Amy Smith and Mike and their children, Nate and Kate, of Oakland, IA; siblings, Terry and Maria of Moraga, CA, James (Jim) and Cheryl of Revere, MO, and sister Marcia (SIS) and Bill Stewart of Kahoka, MO; brothers-in-law, Mark and Chris of Dike, IA, Joel and Tina of Santa Fe, NM, Chanley (Chan) and Linda of Excelsior, MN, and John and Kim of Wauwatosa, WI, sisters-in-law, Mary Sharp of New Sharon, IA, Luann Swanson and Steve of Ollie, IA, and Julie Maze and George of Swea City, IA; other relatives and a host of many friends.
