attended South West Iowa Community College in Creston where he also played baseball. He had dreams of becoming a professional baseball player but an injury prevented that from becoming a reality. So, he lived his dream of sports through his children. In 1983 his father was transferred on the railroad to West Quincy, Missouri and he moved with his parents to Palmyra, Missouri. While living in Palmyra he worked for American Safety, a seatbelt factory. He made some very good lifelong friends in Missouri some who he kept in touch with after moving back to Creston in 1987. He also met his future wife Lisa while living in Palmyra. She moved to Creston with him and they were married in Palmyra in 1990. They were blessed with two children, Ryan Wade and Shelby Joann. Gene and Lisa later divorced and he never re-married. He resided in Creston the remainder of his life where most of the jobs he had were his own businesses, snow removal, sandblasting, painting and working on cars. He had worked in the maintenance department at the Greater Regional Health Hospital in Creston and he also worked as a ground's keeper for the Greenfield Country Club and Pine Valley golf courses in the Creston area. In recent years he drove a semi-truck and he loved to talk about and watch shows on trucking. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Gene Sr. and Mary Palser, his paternal grandparents, George and Exie Palser, his maternal grandmother Myrza Vanderpool, and his brother Steve Carley. He is survived by his children, Ryan and Shelby (Dakota Colburn), his brothers, Clifford Palser and Dan Carley (Mary), sister Janet Carley, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many great friends.
