Truman Sherwood Forest was born in Detroit, MI on April 11, 1942. While music was a passion throughout his life, the joy of his life was found in his family. Married to Iva Jane in June of 1981, they formed a family including their children,Anne, Kelley, Pam and Doug. Ultimately, Truman relished in the role of Grandpa. It didn't matter the reason, time with his grandkids was time well spent. Fishing, camping, golf, concerts, college basketball games and Lions football were just a few things he shared with his family. Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday, as thisday brought his family together. Truman and Iva traveled across the country with many special friends and family. Their love was infectious and their journey was filled with their love of books, music and learning. Truman's career started as an educator and that was a constant throughout his life. He gained a Doctorate from Western Michigan University in Educational Leadership. He also advocated for teachers, for many years, with the MEA. As well, he worked in Human Resource roles for Muskegon County, and later for the City of Muskegon. Truman also taught human resource and public administration courses at WMU and GVSU...[more]

n all of his roles, he enjoyed working with professionals that created change and supported people, always forefront in his focus. Truman directed the White Lake Chorale and numerous choirs over the years. He enjoyed being a part of churches from Whitehall, to Saugatuck, to Grand Rapids. He enjoyed sharing his love of music and the many friendships that were created. He also composed a number of musical pieces that have been shared across the country. Truman is survived by his wife of 42 years, Iva Jane. His children, Kelley (Rick), Pam (Ron), Anne (David) and Doug. His grandchildren include Jacob, Maxwell, Samuel, Mackenzie, Garrett, Jackson, Karlina, Kaela, Nick, Jason, Jaxon, Jameson and Brock. While Truman supported many organizations focused on people in need, donations to Every Woman's Place or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
