Dr. Robert A. James, MD, 57 years old, passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital, Phoenix, Arizona, on April 29, 2023. He was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey, to Selena Capers James and Robert James, Sr. Robert grew up in Passaic County, New Jersey attending public schools until being accepted by the Elizabeth Morrow School in Englewood, New Jersey. He graduated High School from Delbarton School in Morris Township, New Jersey. He was Captain of the varsity basketball team and selected to the all-county basketball team in his Senior year. He attended and graduated from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, in 1988. He started on the basketball team as a freshman which was very uncommon at that time. He was selected to the Group 3 division player of the week several times during his four-year tenure. He was also Captain of the basketball team and lead the team in scoring, rebounding, and shooting percentage. After graduating College, he took a job in Compton Hospital in California as a Research Assistant in the Psychology department. After three years he was accepted to Morehouse Medical School. 1996. He had medical internships at the University of Pennsylvania Childrens Hospital, University of West Virginia Regional Hospital, University of Cincinnati Hospital, and Case Western University Hospital. He was certified by The State of New York to practice Surgery and General Medicine. He worked as a primary care physician in the Bronx, New York, until he took a job at the Indian Reservation Hospital in Gallup, New Mexico. In 2006, Robert relocated to Phoenix to practice pediatrics at Mountain Park Health Center. He taught himself to speak fluent Spanish which further enhanced his skills and attributes of caring to a diverse community. He later joined Bayless Integrated Healthcare in 2015 and was a member of the Affiliate Staff of Phoenix Children's Hospital. To cherish his memory, Dr. James leaves his beloved parents, Robert Sr, and Selena Capers James, along with loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends & colleagues that meant the world to him.
