Kenneth Lee Birchby, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday May 28, 2023 at Hospice of the Valley Sherman House in Phoenix, Arizona. He was the husband of Marie Dolores Birchby. Kenneth and Marie shared 47 years of marriage. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia on August 29, 1943. He resided in New Jersey until his retirement in 1993 when he and Marie moved to Homosassa, Florida. Kenneth and Marie have been residents of Phoenix, Arizona since 2010. Kenneth worked in insurance sales with the Provident Mutual Life Insurance Company of Philadelphia. He went on to start his own business, Bergen Brokerage, which he sold upon his retirement. Prior to this he served in the United States Army in Vietnam as a Military Police Officer and a member of the Army's Criminal Investigation Division. Upon returning home from Vietnam, he served as a patrol supervisor with the New York City Police Department. He is survived by his wife Marie, his son George Preston and wife Rosangel their children Andy and Michelle, his son Christopher Scott and wife Keri and their child Stratton. l Service will be on Wednesday June 14, 2023, at Hansen Mortuary Chapel (6500 East Bell Road, Scottsdale, Arizona 85254) at 11:00 AM. Graveside Service and Military Honors will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona (23029 North Cave Creek Road, Phoenix Arizona 85024) at 1:00 PM. The Honorable Reverend Darlene T. Martinez will preside. Immediately following the graveside service, the family will receive guests for a Celebration of Life at Hansen Mortuary in Scottsdale. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to U.S. VETS - Phoenix (www.usvets.org/locations/phoenix). U.S.VETS - Phoenix has proudly served more than 10,000 veterans since 2001, providing housing, workforce development, and case management services. Their Grand Veterans Village is home to 152 veterans transitioning from homelessness to housing and 30 low-income rentals.
