They then leased the land, but remained on the farm. Jeanne was a longtime and active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Vail, as well as the Order of the Eastern Star. She volunteered with numerous community efforts such as swimming pool, community building, and would read to grade school children at Vail Elementary. She was twice named Citizen of the Year. Jeanne cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On Friday, June 30, 2023, Jeanne passed away, surrounded by her family at the Reed House in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 11 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ted Hawley, a grandson Eric Horky, a brother Paul Aylward; brothers-in-law Dean Morford, Bob Hawley and Kenny Kock, sisters-in-law Norma Hawley and Marie Hinz; Jeanne is survived by her five children: Larry (Barb) Horky of Sioux City; Kim (Randy) Muhlbauer of Vail; Tom (Tami) Hawley of Mount Ayr; Russell (Lori) Hawley of Vail; Theodore (Joni) Hawley of Missouri Valley; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a sister Joyce Kock of Vail; a brother-in-law Gordon Hinz of Arizona; sisters-in-law Gladys Morford of Rio Verde, Arizona, and Mary Aylward of Huron, South Dakota; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
