his work. He found it very rewarding in helping people get well and getting to know them as friends over the years. While living in Muscatine, Ben enjoyed his card clubs, golf, being a member of Geneva Golf and Country Club, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Purple and Gold, Quarter Back Club, and Faith United Church of Christ. He enjoyed following his children and grandchildren in all their activities and sports throughout the years. He felt very blessed in having his son follow in his footsteps and watching his family pursue their careers. He loved the family get togethers for tacos, holidays, family day and getting together with friends to play cards, eating out, and going dancing. He owned a home at the Lake of the Ozarks for 20 years creating lots of memories and going there for 52 years. Ben is survived by his wife Sharon; daughter, Heidi (Chris) Hoffman, Muscatine; son Dr. Jeff (Marcie) Hanssen, Muscatine; grandchildren, Emily Hanssen (Connor Coyle), West Des Moines, Katie Hanssen, Muscatine, Hallie Hanssen, Ames, Caleb (Belinda) Hoffman, Ames, Kyle (Allie) Hoffman, Ames, Seth (Olivia) Hoffman, Ames, and Silas Hoffman, Ames; brother, Al Hanssen; and sister-in-law, Arlene Hanssen, Monticello. Preceding him in death were his parents; grandson, Isaac Hanssen; sisters, Dorothy Webber and Ann Duffner; spouses, Ken Webber and Leroy Duffner; brothers, Richard Hanssen, Robert Hanssen (wife Carol Hanssen); and sister-in-law, Joyce Hanssen. The family would like to say a special thank you to the many close friends that supported the family throughout his life.
