How Did We Do?

Tanya Shawcroft, 72, of Hansville, WA passed away peacefully on December 23, 2023 in Kirkland, WA at the Evergreen Health Hospice Care Center from pancreatic cancer.

Tanya was born to Wayne and Yvonne Truax on November 3, 1951, in Beaver Dam, WI. She grew up in Oshkosh with brother, Tom.

Tanya attended the University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh where she earned her BS in Nursing. She then "moved out west" to complete her Master's of Nursing degree at the University of Washington. Tanya reluctantly went on a blind date with Ken Shawcroft after learning he had a sailboat. Although they never did sail, they enjoyed hiking and kayaking together. They married on July 24, 1981 and had two children, Scott and Kari.

Tanya spent her life comforting and caring for others including her career as a beloved home health and hospice nurse. In retirement, she loved taking walks on the beach and in the Hansville Greenway with lots of time spent birding. Tanya and Ken enjoyed many "tenting" road trips between Hansville and Wisconsin, exploring National Parks, Wildlife Refuges, and brewpubs along the way.

Tanya was thrilled to experience the birth and care for two granddaughters, born to Kari and Sam, and one grandson to Scott and Becca.

Tanya is lovingly remembered by her brother, husband, two children, three grandchildren, extended family and friends.

Donations may be made to the Treatment Advocacy Center, Great Peninsula Conservancy or BirdNote. An informal celebration of life will be planned for the spring.

Tanya was a beautiful, loving soul. Some of us were lucky enough to have known her in grade school and beyond. I remember doing math assignments together over the phone in junior high while she munched a jar of green olives. She could eat a whole jar in one assignment. Seriously, a whole jar. I didn't even want to eat one. She loved her horses, loved her family, loved her friends, loved animals in general and loved life. She obviously loved her life in Washington and all her family was to her. We will all miss her kind and sweet spirit. Fly high, Tanya!
