Richard is survived by his deeply loved wife, Linda, his children Claire, Beth (Tom), Jackson (Laurie), Jeff (Grail), 10 grandchildren (Kyle, Jeremy, Holly, Mitchell, Monica, Campbell, Anna, Shiloh, Shipton, Sherwood), and 4 great-grandchildren.

Richard lived for 100 years and experienced so much. Growing up during the depression in Detroit, his family was poor, but Richard always spoke of the fun he had playing with his "gang" in alleys and vacant lots. He then enlisted in the Army Air Corps as a Radar Navigator following the US entry into World War II. His stories about that experience were always told with a big smile. To be young, not worried about the future, and looking forward to adventure was a common trait during that time. The GI Bill afforded Richard an opportunity to get an education and eventually become a lawyer. His career gradually morphed into the labor arbitration field where he excelled and was nationally recognized. He gained countless friends throughout the years. He also became an avid sailor and founding Commodore of the Great Lakes Yacht Club, modern art enthusiast and lecturer, skier, and world traveler. Richard has always said that good luck has been a force in his life, and lucky he has been. Foremost was finding Linda, the love of his life. Their marriage was based on mutual respect, admiration, love, and good humor. Even after 42 years of marriage, were more in love than any two people could be.

Richard touched the lives of multitudes of people. This was his greatest quality and now his legacy. To connect and make an impact on those who loved him, knew him, or were lucky enough to cross his path. His life was an example that will endure far beyond his days on Earth. Our lives will not be the same without his presence, his stories, his smile, his words of wisdom, quotes from the past, his strong personality, laughter, his insights to problems great and small, and his much needed but seldom heeded advice. Most of all, his family will miss his unending support and love.

A military committal ceremony will be held Wednesday, January 17th, 2024 at 1 pm at the Sarasota National Cemetery. 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota. All are welcome to attend, and a Celebration of Life will follow at the Islander Club Room. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee or Tidewell Hospice.
