Dean's role as a father and later as a grandfather was characterized by boundless love, joy, and pride in his family. Dean's career as a quality assurance analyst at Ralston Purina in Clinton, IA, spanned 32 years, reflecting his commitment to excellence and integrity. His professional achievements were matched by his active involvement in the community, particularly through the First United Methodist Churches in Clinton and Ames. His faith was a driving force in his life, inspiring him to serve others in numerous ways. Facing Judy's Alzheimer's diagnosis, Dean's advocacy for a cure became a personal crusade, highlighted by his remarkable effort to walk every street in Story County in 2019 to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association. His passion for Iowa State Cyclone sports was another facet of his vibrant life, with him being a fixture at numerous athletic events, embodying the spirit of loyalty and support. His retirement years were anything but idle. Alongside Judy, he immersed himself in volunteer work, touching lives at Reiman Gardens, Mary Greeley Hospital Gift Shop, Affordables consignment store, and beyond to communities all over the United States at volunteer work camps. Their adventures also took them around the globe, exploring new cultures and making lasting memories. Dean's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit of generosity, his unwavering support, and his love for life will continue to inspire. He was predeceased by his father Askel, mother Olive, and wife Judy. He is lovingly remembered by his children Jon with wife Tammera, Troy with wife Joanna, and Amy with husband Eric; his cherished grandchildren Benjamin, Everett, Ike, and Gus; siblings Wayne, Gary, and Linda; and a community enriched by his presence. A celebration of Dean's life will be held on Saturday, March 9, at 2:00 pm at the Ames First United Methodist Church, with visitation earlier that day from 9:00-11:00 am at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care.
