He also owned and managed rental properties in the area. James enjoyed playing cribbage, fishing, reading and social time with friends at morning coffee. He also attended different music venues. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge St. Charles and obtained the 3rd degree recognition. James is survived by his children Gene, Karen and Peggy, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, William Roy Young; brother, Robert Milton Young; brother, Horace Mansel Young; and an infant brother and infant sister. A visitation will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames, Iowa.
