and livestock judging from a young age. His passion continued at Iowa State, where he was a member of the Iowa State Livestock Judging Team. He co-founded The Dohrmann Brothers Sheep business with his brother Bill and showed Hampshire sheep at the Iowa State Fair for 50 consecutive years, as well as at various state fairs across the Midwest. Besides watching his children show sheep, the highlight was raising the 1999 National Grand Champion Hampshire Ram. He enjoyed judging sheep at numerous state, regional and county fairs. He served on the Iowa Sheep Board and Iowa Sheep Improvement Association. He was inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame for his several years of service as a 4-H leader and the Franklin County youth sheep program. Boyd was a member of the Ames UCC Church and proud supporter of Iowa State University. He was an avid sports fan, holding season tickets for football for 48 years and men's basketball for 40 years. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, visiting all 50 states, and he loved reading in his spare time. Boyd is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Fern Dohrmann and his granddaughter Makayla Roberts. He is survived by his wife Irene of 54 years; brother Bill; children Jill (Brian) Roberts, Ben (Jen) Dohrmann, and Sarah (Adam) Britton; grandchildren Cael Roberts, Makenna, Bennett and Kennedy Dohrmann, and Will and Everett Britton; nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Grandon Funeral Home in Ames on Thursday, July 25, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. (414 Lincoln Way, Ames, Iowa 50010). A graveside service will be at the Hampton Cemetery on Friday, July 26 10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend a celebration of life lunch at 11:30 at the Coulter Community Center.
