Richard (Dick) L Armstrong, 87, of Marion, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving wife and family. Richard was born on November 18th , 1937, in Portis, Kansas, the son of Junior Armstrong and Dorothy Jones. Richard married Maryann on December 26, 1977, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He worked for the City of Cedar Rapids Street Dept. for many years. He then later became a certified Mercury Marine mechanic which led to his love of boating and being on the river. He worked at several different marinas in both Iowa and Texas. After he retired, he found a new passion for woodworking. Many of the things he would create were birdhouses, flower benches, squirrel feeders, flower planters, and decorative coat racks to name a few. Some of which several family members own and cherish. If you showed him a picture of something, he would draw up the plans and create it for you. He was also a big fan of Iowa Hawkeyes Women's basketball and Kansas City Chiefs. Lynn) Armstrong of Vinton, Iowa, David Armstrong of Sunset, Texas, two stepdaughters, Sharon (John) Foster of Marion, Iowa, Jodi Achey of Marion, Iowa, and Michael (Jamie) Armstrong of Newhall, Iowa who he thought of as one of his children; two sisters, Pat (Pete) Austin of Arizona, Evelyn Corner of Oregon; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Junior and Dorothy Armstrong; sister, Linda Mann, brother, Charles (Chuck) Armstrong, son-in-law, Greg Thompson, three infant grandsons, Joseph, Jonathan, Wade, and an infant granddaughter, Savannah. Richard's family would like to thank the staff at Unity Point Hospice for their wonderful in-home care and the love they showed. There will be no service or celebration of life at this time.
