Laurie Renae Smith

Laurie Renae (Alloway) Smith, 63 of Waterloo, Iowa passed away peacefully, January 13th, 2026. Laurie was born on March 21st, 1962, to Frank Haines Alloway and Ila Delila (Brown, Alloway) Temple in Des Moines, IA. She was a lifelong Iowa resident, and a loving mother of 3 children Jacob Kish, Christopher Daniel and Wendi Jo Smith. Over the years Laurie held a variety of jobs and had many hobbies including being a gifted artist in both painting and print. She loved to create Native American themed works of art expressing her Native American heritage, as well as helping her mother, Ila complete many quilts over the years in the little cottage at the end of Upton Ave. A social butterfly, Laurie loved to sing, laugh, have fun and enjoyed spending time with her beloved family and friends. Several years of Laurie's life were spent in a relationship with Jim Paradine of Waterloo. They continued to remain good friends after their separation. She leaves behind her children Jacob, Christopher and Wendi, grandchildren Braiden, Emma, Jeciti, Jace, Jaydee, Ethen, Christian, Kaden, Kohl, Kali, Kash, Kaisen, her sister Sandy Mitchell, sister Linda Temple, sister Patty (Temple) Jones, brothers Lonnie Dyer and Michael Temple, numerous relatives, nieces, nephews, neighborhood kids who called her Mom and many loving friends who considered her family. Laurie will be greatly missed by everyone who had the blessing of knowing her. A celebration of life will be held Saturday March 21st, 2026, at Shiloh Baptist Church (formerly Immanuel Baptist) located at 3525 Sager Ave Waterloo, IA starting at 1PM.
