Richard "Dick" Lee Carr

Richard (Dick) Lee Carr, 94, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, at his residence after a long and full life. He was born on February 13, 1932, in Boone, Iowa, the eldest son of Vern G. and Doris (Edmunds) Carr. A gathering of friends will be on Thursday, June 11 from 5 to 7 pm at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care in Ames. A memorial service with Military Honors will be at Story Memorial Gardens in Ames on Friday, June 12 at 10:00. Richard proudly served his country in the United States Navy from January 1951 to November 1954, stationed aboard the USS Perkins. His years in the service remained a meaningful and formative chapter of his life. Soon after returning home from the Navy, Richard met the love of his life. He married Betty Lee George on May 14, 1955, and together they shared a loving marriage of more than 53 years. They raised two children, Crys (Paul) Newsom of Wentzville, MO and Mike (Tammy) Carr of Ankeny, IA, who were his greatest joy.
