Edmund Byram ?Bud? Manger, 88, Green Bay, died Monday, October 25, 2004. He was born to the late Edmund Henry Louis Manger and Edith Byram Manger on Nov. 24, 1915 in Green Bay. He graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1933 and Beloit College in 1937 where he majored in economics, played on the football team, and was a member of Beta Theta Pi. Bud served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. On June 14, 1940, he married the former Mary Louise Mitchell, whom he had met in college. She preceded him in death on Oct. 8, 1991. Following college, he joined his father, Edmund H. Manger at the company founded in 1893 by his grandfather, E.C. Manger & Son Casket Co., originally a harness making company in Kewaunee. Bud served on the board of directors for Kellogg Bank and Fort Howard Paper Company for many years. He was a quiet philanthropist with a strong commitment to his community. He endowed a faculty chair at Beloit College and a scholarship at St. Norbert College. An avid outdoorsman, Bud was an advocate of nature organizations. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited since 1954, and was the last surviving member of the Little Tail Boating & Bathing Co., founded in 1957 by a group of seven hunting friends. Bud is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Bob and Betsy Manger, Seattle, WA; one daughter and son-in-law: Barbara Manger & Bill Lynch, Milwaukee; four grandchildren: Dylan and Fritz Manger, both of Los Angeles; Luke Lynch, Jackson, WY, and Matt Lynch, Chicago; one niece, Meredith Wilson Brown, Louisville, KY. He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Virginia Parker Rose, on Jan. 25, 2003, whom he had married on June 5, 1992, and his sister, Edith Wilson. Friends may call after 12:00 Noon, Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at Union Congregational Church, 716 S. Madison St., where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Mize officiating. A reception will follow in the English Room of the church. Interment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery, Allouez. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
