Leona D. Kaster, 85, died Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at a local nursing home. She was born August 15, 1922, to the late Julian and Valentina (Piumbroek) Abts in the Town of Rockland, Wisconsin. She married Sylvester J. Kaster on November 6, 1940 at St. Mary's Church, DePere. Leona was very much family oriented and instrumental in her children's successful and happy lives. She enjoyed going to the cottage with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, taking them fishing, boat riding, and teaching them important things, like playing cards and spitting watermelon seeds. In the winter, it was ice-skating and cross country skiing. Besides the normal mom things, Leona sewed her daughters' dresses from patterns she created. She also cut out cardboard animals freehand, much to the children's delight. Leona especially enjoyed dancing with her loving husband, Sy, since 1940. Together, as members of Nativity Parish, they attended daily mass. Although starting late in life, Leona enjoyed success in both golf and bowling and was able to sport championship trophies in both. Leona was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Sy; her parents, Julian Abts; Valentina (Piumbroek) Abts-Corrigan; and step-father, James Corrigan; one daughter, Jeanne Marie Kaster; two grandsons, Joey Selner and Trevor Krohn; mother and father-in-law, George (Cora) Kaster; deceased sisters, brothers, and in-laws; Norman Abts; Marie (Chester) Dollar; Robert Abts; John Abts; Dorothy Mae Abts; and Linda Abts; Arnold (Jane) Kaster; Norbert Kaster; Martin (Mildred) Kaster; Ellen Kaster; Richard Kaster; Hank (Beatrice) Kaster; Terese (Richard) Johnson; and John Kaster. She most wanted to leave her family with these words to live by: Family is important-always love one another. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 18, at Lyndahl Funeral Home, where a parish wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue after 10:00 a.m. Friday at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 2270 South Oneida Street, where the Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.
