Richard Dick R. Compton, Sr., 79, Green Bay, died Thursday, May 1, 2008, after a long courageous battle with cancer with his family at his side. He was born January 10, 1929 to the late Bert and Lucille (Brunette) Compton in Green Bay. He served in the United States Air Force from 1947 to 1950. He then joined the United States Army from 1950 to 1953, was wounded in Korea in 1951 and discharged in July of 1953. He was a life member of Duck Creek VFW Post #7534 and the Russell Leicht Chapter #3 Disabled American Veterans. Dick received the Purple Heart from the U. S. Army. On July 14, 1951, he married Nancy Rott. He had been employed as a truck driver with the teamsters' union for Spector Freight and CTS for over 37 years. Survivors include his wife, Nancy; his children, Cheryl O'Keefe; Debra Van Rens; Cynthia (David) Dewick; Patti Vandehei and fiancÃ?'©, Wayne Wickesberg; and Richard Compton Jr.; eight grandchildren, Amy, Tara, Tracy, Jenny, Jason, Aaron, Nicholas and Hannah; 13 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Joyce (Floyd) Bessert; Betty Ozarowicz; Carol Baetsen; and Mary Garrity; four brothers, Bert Compton; Bill (Dorothy) Compton; Harold (Germaine) Compton; and Geor...[more]

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Bruce; a great-grandson, Hunter Hensley; three sisters, Bernadine Ozarowicz; Bernice Klimczyk; and Ella Vannieuwenhoven; one brother, Jim Compton; two sisters-in-law, Arleen and Gladys Compton; four brothers-in-law, Ray Ozarowicz; Andy Ozarowicz; Emil Klimczyk; and Ron Garrity Sr; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Win and Gen Thorpe. Friends may call from 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 4, at Lyndahl Funeral Home where the funeral service will take place at 7:00 P.M. with Rev. Thomas Farrell officiating.
