Education. He served on the local Mental Health Board and also was elected to the Alumni Board of Maryville College for a three-year term. Charles was active in the Nobel-Straubel Post #2037 Veterans of Foreign Wars in many positions, including local and district commander. He was president of the United Patriotic Society for five years and served on the executive committee for the planning and financing of the Admiral Flatley Park in downtown Green Bay. Charles was a long-time Boy Scout leader, as well as local and district committeeman, a member of the Order of the Arrow and received the Silver Beaver award. He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Washington Lodge #21, Free and Accepted Masons and the Scottish Rites Body. He was also a member and past president of the Senior Optimist Club of Green Bay. Charles is survived by his wife, Roberta; two sons, Jon (Liz) Brand, Green Bay and Richard (Olivia) Brand, Powell, Tennessee; one daughter, Kathlynn Galloway, Green Bay; three grandchildren, Carrie Galloway (Corey VanderLoop), Megan (Christopher Costine) Galloway and Tiffany Brand; two great-grandchildren, Aidan and William VanderLoop; a brother-in-law, Robert Wendorf; a sister-in-law, Lucille Omholt; nieces and nephews. He is further survived by Roberta's children, Eric (Luann) Buckley, Sheboygan; Ross Buckley, Watertown, South Dakota; and Carolyn (David) Regier, Ft. Worth, Texas; other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and first wife, Mae, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Jane Wendorf and Helen Savage. Friends may call after 9 am Thursday, October 29, at First Presbyterian Church, Ashland and Howard Street, where the funeral service will be held at 11 am with the Rev. Ted Tromble officiating. Entombment will be at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. The family wishes to thank the caregivers of Unity Hospice and the staff at Marla Vista Garden for their care and concern for Charles.
